Privacy Policy for Plant Life

Plant Life: Your Plant Journal (“Plant Life”, “the app”) is a plant journal application that allows you to record your plants, their locations, photos and care history.
Information stored on your device
Plant Life is primarily a local-first application. Information such as your plants, rooms, plant journal entries, watering history, notes and locally saved plant photographs is stored on your device.
Plant Life does not currently require you to create an account, and this journal information is not routinely uploaded to a Plant Life cloud account.
Removing the app may remove locally stored information unless it has otherwise been backed up by your device or operating system.
Plant photographs and AI plant identification
Plant Life includes an optional AI plant-identification feature.
When you choose to use this feature, the plant photograph you select is transmitted securely to Plant Life’s server and then submitted to OpenAI’s API for analysis. The purpose of this processing is to identify the plant and return information such as its likely common and scientific names.
Plant photographs are not sent for AI identification unless you choose to use the identification feature.
Plant Life does not use photographs submitted for plant identification for advertising purposes.
OpenAI states that data submitted through its API is not used to train its models unless the API customer explicitly opts in to data sharing. OpenAI may retain API data for limited periods for purposes including abuse and misuse monitoring, subject to its applicable data controls and policies.
Advertising
Plant Life uses Google AdMob to provide advertising, including rewarded advertisements that may allow you to access features such as AI plant identification.
Google and its advertising partners may process information about your device and interaction with advertisements for purposes including delivering, measuring and preventing fraud relating to advertising. The exact processing may depend on your location, privacy choices and applicable law.
Where required, Plant Life uses Google’s consent-management system to ask for your privacy choices before requesting advertising.
Declining personalised advertising consent does not prevent you from using Plant Life’s normal plant-journal features.
Your advertising privacy choices
Where required, you can choose whether to consent to certain advertising-related processing. Plant Life will provide access to Google’s privacy-options interface where required so that you can review or change your choices later.
Information processed by our server
Plant Life operates a server used to provide features such as AI plant identification. When communicating with an internet service, technical information such as an IP address may necessarily be processed by the hosting infrastructure.
The server may use limited technical logs and rate-limiting information for security, reliability, troubleshooting and prevention of abuse. We do not use plant-identification requests to build advertising profiles.
Third-party services
Plant Life currently uses third-party services including:
Google AdMob, for advertising and advertising consent management; OpenAI, for AI-powered plant identification; and hosting/infrastructure providers used to operate Plant Life’s server.
These providers may process information according to their own privacy policies and applicable agreements.
Data retention
Plant journal information stored locally remains on your device until you delete it through the app, remove the app, or it is otherwise removed through your device’s storage or backup systems.
Plant Life does not intentionally maintain a permanent server-side library of photographs submitted for AI plant identification. Limited technical logs and rate-limiting information may be retained as necessary for security, reliability and abuse prevention.
Data processed by third-party providers may be retained according to their applicable policies and agreements.
Children
Plant Life is not specifically directed at children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Plant Life develops. The current version will be available at the Privacy Policy URL associated with the app.
