How to Use the Survey Retirement Calculator
Ever wondered how many surveys it would take to become a millionaire? Our Survey Retirement Calculator lets you play with the numbers and see whether online surveys could ever fund your retirement. Spoiler: it’s more of a fun thought experiment than a realistic strategy — but it’s a great way to understand the power (and limits) of compounding.
Step 1: Set your retirement goal
- Enter your target retirement pot (default is £1,000,000).
- This is the amount of money you’d like to build over time by saving your survey earnings.
Step 2: Choose your growth rate
- By default, the calculator assumes you invest all your survey income into an account growing at 6% per year (similar to long-term stock market averages).
- You can adjust this to be more conservative (e.g., 4%) or more optimistic (e.g., 8%).
Step 3: Enter your survey income
- Add how many hours per month you plan to spend on online surveys.
- Input your estimated survey hourly rate (default £3 per hour).
- The calculator will show your monthly income from surveys and project how much you’d accumulate if you invested it.
Step 4: Add your current savings (optional)
- If you already have a starting pot, enter it to see how much faster you might reach your goal.
Step 5: Choose a retirement timeline (optional)
- If you want to know how many surveys you’d need to complete to retire by a certain age, enter how many years until retirement.
- The calculator will estimate how many survey hours per month are required to hit your target by then.
Step 6: Review your results
- You’ll see:
- How many years it would take to hit your target pot,
- Your approximate age when you’d reach it,
- A comparison of your current survey path vs the required hours path,
- A reality check on how practical it is.
Why Try This Tool?
- It answers the fun question: “Can you really retire by doing online surveys?”
- It highlights the true earning power of surveys compared with other side hustles.
- It shows how compounding investments can grow even small, regular earnings.
